District-Level Mandia Divas Celebrated in Jharsuguda

With the approval of the State Government, Jharsuguda district held Mandia Day to promote the use of Shree Anna and Forgotten foods, as well as to encourage agricultural practices. This event aimed to raise awareness about the benefits of Mandia grains.

Fifteen Mandia farmers from the district traveled to Bhubaneswar to participate in a state conference. The journey was flagged off by key officials, including the District Chief Agriculture Officer and the District Social Welfare Officer.

At the Jharsuguda Engineering School, the event was inaugurated with traditional rituals, including the offering of water to Amla Chara. Sudshanshu Dora, Prabir Kumar Naik, and other distinguished guests attended the ceremony.

The event featured an exhibition of Mandia grains by 15 women self-help groups from five blocks. Stalls showcased rare varieties of rice, mung beans, and other Mandia products, along with Mandia-based snacks like Khakra, Rose Cake, and Burfi. The guests highlighted the health benefits of Mandia grains, urging their incorporation into diets and promoting them as a commercial crop.

A cultural program included Sambalpuri dance, Odissi dance, and a Mandia agriculture-themed Pala. The event also hosted a quiz competition, recognizing talented students and farmers.

Chief District Agriculture Officer, Jenamani Bibhuthi Bhushan Ray, shared insights on the successful implementation of Mandia Day in low-rainfall regions like Jharsuguda, focusing on the revival of endangered crops. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Agriculture District Officer Prithviraj Mandal.

The celebration successfully promoted Mandia grains and their potential to boost local agriculture and nutrition.
