Jharsuguda Police Acts Under Operation NETRA Against Instagram Reels Displaying Knives
Jharsuguda: Jharsuguda Police, under Operation NETRA, apprehended five adults and three juveniles for allegedly creating and posting Instagram reels displaying knives, threatening the public and attempting to create fear in the locality.
Based on information regarding the social media reels, a team of Jharsuguda Police conducted verification and traced those involved. During the operation, police apprehended Sagar Bhainsa (22), son of Ramesh Bhainsa; Subham Chhanchan alias Dareshan (21), son of Dinabandhu Chhanchan; Bikash Bhainsa alias Raunak (24), son of Sundarmani Bhainsa; Bikash Pradhan (21), son of Birendra Pradhan; and Samir Soreng alias W (22), son of Bhimsen Soreng. Three juveniles were also apprehended in connection with the incident.
Police seized two knives and one mobile phone allegedly containing the video reels during the operation.
A case has been registered at Jharsuguda Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Arms Act, and further investigation is underway.
Jharsuguda SP Gundala Reddy Raghavendra, IPS, said that social media should be used for creativity and not for glorifying weapons, threatening people or creating fear. He added that Jharsuguda Police is closely monitoring such activities under Operation NETRA and warned that anyone attempting to create fear or disturb public peace, whether online or offline, will face strict legal action.
