Burglars Steal Gold Ornaments from Mangaspuriya Jewellers After Breaking Through Wall; Police Launch Massive Manhunt
Jharsuguda: Burglars broke into a jewellery shop in Jharsuguda in the early hours of Saturday and decamped with gold ornaments estimated to be worth around more than Rs 1 Crore.
The burglary took place at Mangaspuria Jewellery between around 2 am and 3 am. Police said the burglars allegedly climbed onto the premises from a neighbouring building and entered the shop after cutting a hole through a wall on the third floor using cutting equipment.
After gaining entry, the burglars allegedly took away gold ornaments kept on display. They also cut the wires connected to the CCTV surveillance system and fled with the digital video recorder (DVR), apparently in an attempt to destroy evidence.
The incident came to light when shop owner Praveen Agarwal opened the establishment in the morning and found several showcases opened and jewellery missing. He subsequently noticed that the CCTV DVR was also missing and informed police.
“Burglars entered from the rear side through a neighbouring premises after making a hole in the wall. As per our preliminary estimate, gold jewellery worth around Rs 1 Crore has been stolen,” Agarwal said.
Jharsuguda SP G R Raghavendra said he, along with the SDPO and IIC, visited the spot after receiving information about the burglary.
“The burglars entered the shop after cutting through a wall and took away gold ornaments kept on the display racks. The exact value of the stolen jewellery is yet to be ascertained. Investigation is underway and we are confident of apprehending the accused,” the SP said.
Police have launched an investigation and are examining available evidence to identify and trace the burglars.
