Precautionary Measures Intensified in Jharsuguda to Curb Diarrhoea Outbreak Food Safety Dept. conducts inspections; ₹22,000 fine imposed on defaulter

Jharsuguda: In response to rising health concerns over the potential outbreak of diarrhoea, the Food Safety Department of Jharsuguda district has stepped up its surveillance and enforcement activities across the district. Acting on the directives of the Collector and District Magistrate, a series of precautionary checks were carried out on June 15 and 16 at local hotels, eateries, and packaged drinking water manufacturing units.

As part of the intensified drive, officials collected 17 water samples from various establishments to test for quality and safety. Preliminary findings prompted the department to impose a fine of ₹22,000 on defaulting units for violating food safety norms and hygiene standards.

“These inspections are being conducted as a preventive measure to avoid any possible outbreak of diarrhoeal diseases during the monsoon season,” a senior food safety official said. “All samples have been sent for lab analysis, and any further violations will be met with strict action.”

Officials confirmed that the checking and sampling operations will continue on a daily basis across all blocks of the district. Authorities have urged food vendors and water suppliers to strictly comply with safety protocols, warning that non-compliance may lead to harsher penalties, including closure of units.

The district administration has also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and avoid consuming food or water from unverified sources.

With the rainy season making waterborne diseases more likely, Jharsuguda’s administration is taking no chances in safeguarding public health.
