Husband allegedly carried wife’s body home on a motorcycle after no hearse was available at Mundrajore CHC

Jharsuguda: A husband was allegedly forced to transport the body of his deceased wife home on a motorcycle after a dead body carrier was reportedly unavailable at the Mundrajore Community Health Centre (CHC) in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district on Sunday morning, raising concerns over the lack of mortuary transport facilities at rural government health institutions.
The deceased, Jamuna Chhatria (55), a resident of Udiapali village under Bhatlaida Gram Panchayat in Laikera block, was taken to the Mundrajore CHC by her husband, Naresh Chhatria, after she fell seriously ill. Doctors at the health centre declared her dead. According to family members, they sought a vehicle to transport the body to their village but were informed that no dead body carrier was available at the CHC. With no alternative arrangement, Naresh allegedly carried his wife’s body home on a motorcycle.
