Cyber, Financial and Forensic investigation leads to forward linkages to many states and territories in Digital Arrest Cyber Crime Case
Jharsuguda: Jharsuguda Police have made significant progress in the ongoing investigation into the Digital Arrest cyber fraud case registered under Jharsuguda Sadar PS Case No. 268 Dt. 14.05.2024 U/s 419/420 IPC, R/w Sec. 66-D IT Act. The incident occurred in May 2024, where elderly victims were targeted by individuals posing as officers of law enforcement agencies. The fraudsters threatened the victims by alleging their involvement in money laundering, resulting in a total loss of Rs 34 lakhs through banking transactions carried out in two phases. Since the inception of the case, the Jharsuguda Cyber Cell team has been tirelessly tracking the suspects and analyzing digital evidence to pinpoint key players. Jharsuguda Cyber Cell, after months of diligent analysis and extensive raids across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra, has apprehended four main accused individuals. Rs 33 lakhs have been recovered, with Rs 14 lakhs already reverted to the complainant’s bank account, Rs 17 lakhs frozen, and Rs 2 lakhs seized. More than 20 mobile phones, three laptops, and three computer systems have been seized. Due to use of meticulous Cyber investigation, financial investigation and Forensic Investigation techniques, Jharsuguda Police unearthed Forward links to the above Digital Arrest Cyber Crime. Fraudsters are operating from different remote lands and even foreign locations. From sitting in remote land, these scamsters are duping innocent Citizens. They are using fake corporate accounts for receiving the money of victims. These accounts are used for intermediary transactions. As soon as money is being credited to these accounts, money is being transferred to multiple accounts. Jharsuguda Police is continuing investigation using modern technologies to establish all forward linkages of above Digital Arrest cyber crime. This is to inform to Citizens that there is nothing called ‘digital arrest’ in parlance of law enforcement. Citizens are advised to remain vigilant against online threats caused by fraudsters impersonating officers from any Law Enforcement Agencies of India.
