Police Foil Dacoity Bid, Nab Eight Armed Miscreants near Tileimal Jungle

Jharsuguda: Brajrajnagar Police foiled a dacoity attempt and arrested eight armed criminals near Tileimal Jungle during a night raid, officials said on Friday.

Police identified the accused as Prakash Yadav alias Kallu (24) of Gualapada, Sandeep Das alias Chhotka (27) of Chunabhata, Bishal Kumbhar (24) of H. Line, Qtr. No. 08, Saurav Singh (23) of Ittabhata, Rahul Chowhan (27) of Near Puruna Chowk, Qtr. No. 08, Jagadish Bhiana (32) of Bahadurpada, Biswa Majhi (33) of Tileimal, and Kuldeep Singh (34) of Mama Chowk — all under Brajrajnagar Police Station limits.

According to police sources, Sub-Inspector M.M. Naik, In-Charge of Gandhi Chowk Outpost, along with his team, was conducting night patrol when they received a tip-off about a gang of criminals assembling near Tileimal Jungle. The group was reportedly armed with firearms and other deadly weapons and was allegedly planning a dacoity.

Acting on the intelligence, the police team swiftly moved to the spot and launched a raid. However, on spotting the police, the miscreants tried to escape in a Scorpio vehicle. Police immediately set up multiple nakas (checkpoints) across the area, leading to the interception and arrest of seven of the accused. A few others managed to flee the scene.

Upon searching the arrested individuals, police seized two country-made pistol with three live rounds, two bhujalis (sharp weapons), one iron rod, two knives, and the Scorpio vehicle bearing registration number OD-23H-9697.

A case has been registered at Brajrajnagar Police Station under Sections 310(4), 310(5), and 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) read with Sections 25(1-AA), 25(6), and 35 of the Arms Act. Police have launched an investigation to trace the remaining members of the gang and ascertain their criminal background.
