Jharsuguda Police Foil Illegal Arms Sale, Three Arrested Under Operation Netra

Jharsuguda: In a major breakthrough under Operation Netra, Jharsuguda Police on Saturday nabbed three persons allegedly involved in the illegal trade of firearms and ammunition.
Police identified the accused as Anil Sahu (45), a resident of Purunabasti, Bitu Khatik alias Sonkar (33), a resident of Buromal and Suraj Sonkar alias Khatik (34), a resident of Shantinagar, Buromal, all from Jharsuguda district.
According to police sources, acting on a tip-off, police raided a secluded location in Buromal area, where the accused were reportedly attempting to sell country-made pistols and live ammunition. During the raid, two country-made pistols, four magazines, six live rounds, one motorcycle, and three mobile phones were seized from their possession.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the trio had been involved in multiple criminal activities and were engaged in secret arms trading for financial gain. Following their arrest and seizure of weapons, Jharsuguda Police registered a case under Sections 25(1)(a)/25(6)/25(8)/35 of the Arms Act read with Section 111(4) BNS.
