Lakhanpur Villagers boycotted Public Hearing against setup of industrial waste treatment plant
Jharsuguda : The villagers of Lakhanpur on Friday had staged a protest and boycotted a public hearing on Environmental Impact Assessment held by Jharsuguda District Administration and Ramky Enviro Engineers Ltd in Lakhanpur village under Jharsuguda District.
As reported, Ramky Enviro Engineers Ltd company is going to set up an industrial waste treatment, storage and disposal plant. The company will be set up with an investment of Rs 149 crore. The plant will spread into a total of 63.30 Acres of land in Lakhanpur village under Jharsuguda District
On Friday, the villagers of the affected villages had boycotted the public hearing.
“This industry will collect and store all the hazardous materials from all the industries. The company will set up this plant on 63.30 acres of land, which is a dense forest present in the middle of Lakhanpur and Kudaloi Panchayat. Due to these hazardous materials, our area will get polluted. So, we are completely boycotting the public hearing kept. The land has more than one lacs tree, which will be cut down; the pollution created by this industry will also affect the nearby Mahanadi river. So, we don’t want this project here” said Biranchi Sahu, a local resident.
Jharsuguda Additional District Magistrate Pradeep Kumar Sahoo said, “Seeing the law-and-order situation the public hearing on Environmental Impact Assessment has been postponed. We will inform the Pollution Control board regarding this and based on their instruction the next action will be taken.”
