Worker dies in mishap at Vedanta Ltd. Jharsuguda, railway siding. Agitators blocks Vedanta Gate no. 1

JHARSUGUDA :  A 47 year old worker died while he was working in the railway siding of Vedanta Ltd. on Tuesday evening. 

The deceased was identified as Mumtaz Khan (47), a resident of Buromal, Jharsuguda.  He was working as a Railway Points man under a firm named as CEMFIS India Pvt. Ltd. 

As per the sources, Khan was joining the rail engine with the bogies when the goods train lost control and started moving on the tracks . He got trapped between the engine and bogies . He was initially taken to Apollo Clinic inside the Vedanta Township and later referred to VIMSAR Burla, but on the way he succumbed to his injuries. 

As the death of the employee spread, the residents and employees blocked the Sonarimunda road and staged a protest in front of the Vedanta Gate No.1 in demand for proper compensation for the deceased family. Even a meeting between the Vedanta Management and agitators had taken place but had failed.

Vedanta’s Official statements said that, “There was an unfortunate incident at the plant premises in the railway siding area wherein a worker lost his life. The exact cause of the incident is under investigation. We stand with the family of the deceased and will extend all possible support to them. “
