Water woes in Belpahar Municipality, women blocks highway
Jharsuguda: Fed up with the water crisis, the residents of ward No. 2 of Belpahar Municipality blocked National Highway 49 for more than six hours on Monday and requested the concerned department to step-in to solve this problem immediately.
Belpahar Municipality has 19 wards with 38,900 residents living in the periphery. Due to the ongoing summer season wave, the Belpahar Municipality, PHD department and others have able to arrange 16 �water tankers to fulfil the demand of water of all 19 wards, which is unable to satisfy the need of the water required by the residents.
Adding to the water woes, PHD’s Pumphouse which supplies the water is not working since eight days due to which some problems.
A large number of women blocked the NH and demanded immediate supply of drinking water to all households in the area.
” We are not getting sufficient water not even drinking water past one week and none of them has provided facilities to solve this, due to which we have come on roads demanding to solve our water problem immediately.” said a protesting woman.
PHD Officials, Brajrajnagar SDPO N.C. Dansena, IIC A.B. Guru, E.O. Belpahar Municipality Loknath Tiwari had reached the spot. After the assurance given by the Officials, the blockade was lifted.
Belpahar Municipality, Executive Officer �”Loknath Tiwari, said that “Residents had been demanding to solve the water woes, We have asked the PHD Officials to dug 4 borewells along with the repair of PHD line immediately, which would solve the problem of this ward.”
