Science Express Climate Action Special Exhibition Train reaches Jharsuguda

IMG_20160129_105614Jharsuguda: Science Express train, an unique mobile science exhibition mounted on a 16-coach AC train, reached Jharsuguda Railway Station on Friday to raise awareness on how Climate Change can be combated though mitigation and adaptation.

The ‘Science Express-Climate Change Special (SECCS) train was inaugurated by Bargarh M.P. Dr. Prabhash Singh in presence of Rajendra Prasad, Divisional Railway Manager (CKP Division), Jharsuguda MLA Naba Kishore Das.

The state-of-the-art exhibition aboard the SECCS aims to create widespread awareness on climate change and related issues among various sections of society, especially the students.�This is an initiative of Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Environment and Forests & Climate Change, Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and Ministry of Railways (Govt. of India)

As per the Nitin Tiwane, Manager of Science Express said that, �This Science Express which aims to create the awareness about the climate change among the students and the people which was flagged off from Delhi’s Safdarjung Railway Station on 15th Oct. 2015, covering 20 states, halting 64 stations. Jharsuguda is the 35th Station. Till now around 11 Lakh people have visited this train with more than 3 Lakh students from more than 2000 schools. In Odisha, apart from Jharsuguda it will also cover Koraput on 08th � 10th Feb 2016.IMG_20160129_103534

Out of the 16 coaches, 13 are solely dedicated for showcasing information, case studies and issues related to various aspect of climate change apart from that two coaches have been put up. One for the Kid zone (Class 1-4), for kids to indulge in fun-filled activities and another for Joy of Science lab (Class6-10) for performing various experiments and understanding concepts in environment.”

Various School students of Jharsuguda had taken the advantage of this and had visited the train and had understood the concept. “This exhibition has focused on the how the temp of earth has being increasing and impacting us. Here we understood that how we can conserve�in future so that it will be helpful” said by Shiksha Nag, Student of Class VIII DAV Public School, Jharsuguda

This Science Express will be station at Jharsuguda Railway Station till Saturday evening; afterwards it will head to Bilaspur(C.G.).
