Jharsuguda Airport to Resume Flights to Chennai and Bengaluru, But Slot Booking Not Yet Started
Jharsuguda: The Jharsuguda Airport Authority announced on June 30 that SpiceJet would start new flights from Jharsuguda VSS Airport to Kolkata and Visakhapatnam from July 10. The authority also said that flight services would resume to Chennai and Bengaluru, which were closed last year. However, slot booking for the said airline has not started yet.
When contacted about the incident, airport director Sandeep Tiwari said that slot booking for the flight would start on July 10 and that the flight was not yet scheduled to fly. Mr. Tiwari said that the airlines would provide information regarding the bookings.
Jharsuguda Airport currently has regular flights to Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Delhi. SpiceJet flies from Jharsuguda to Hyderabad and Delhi, and Air India flies from Jharsuguda to Kolkata and Bhubaneswar. People were very excited by the authority’s decision to resume flights to Chennai and Bengaluru, as these flights had been stopped for almost a year. However, after the current situation became known, there was dissatisfaction among the people.
The authority has not yet given a reason for the delay in slot booking. However, it is possible that the airline is waiting to see how many passengers book the flights before finalising the schedule. It is also possible that the airline is still working out the logistics of the flights.
The authority has said that it will provide more information on the flights soon. In the meantime, passengers who are interested in booking flights to Chennai and Bengaluru should wait for the slot bookings to start.
