Truck Driver arrested for theft of Aluminium Billets
Jharsuguda : Badmal Police on Monday arrested a truck driver for committing theft of 20.959 MT Aluminium billets worth Rs. 55 Lakhs, which he was transporting from Vedanta Aluminium to Century Extrusion Ltd. Kharagpur (West Bengal).
Police identified the accused as Sachindra Ray (40), resident of Kolaghat, Dist. East Medinipur (West Bengal)
As per the report, based on the complaint filed by one Rajesh Kumar Shukla, the Branch Manager of Supreme Transport Pvt. Ltd., Jharsuguda, who was the authorized transporter of Vedanta Aluminium Ltd. for 15 years. On 17th July, his company had sent a consignment of 20.959MT of Aluminium billets worth Rs. 55 Lakhs from Vedant Aluminium Ltd., Jharsuguda to Century Extrusion Ltd., Kharagpur (West Bengal) in truck no. WB35-3901. But when the consignment did not reach to the destination till 27th July and the drivers had switched off his mobile phones. After that an FIR was lodged at Badmal police station, Jharsuguda SP constituted a Team and deputed a police team to Weste Bengal to nab the culprits. Based on the intelligence inputs the police team apprehended the accused Sachindra Ray and seized the truck bearing number WB11C 3537and recovered entire stolen Aluminium billets. However, the owner of the truck and another driver are absconding. In order to escape from the clutches of the police, the accused had affixed fake number plates on the front and rear truck and had also changed the appearance of the truck by applying stickers. One truck bearing Regd. No. WB11C-3537, two fake number plates, one mobile phone, 32 Nos. of Aluminium billets weighing 20.959 were seized.
