3 arrested for beating elderly to death in Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda:  Jharsuguda Police on Monday arrested three people including a woman in connection with the murder of a 60-year-old man, after the victim had a verbal altercation with a woman over some issue, under Jharsuguda Police station limits.

The deceased was identified as Kailash Meher (60), a resident of the lecturer’s colony, Jharsuguda, while the Police identified the accused as Tanu Sethi (45) (woman), his son Rajesh Sethi (21) and one Santosh Tandy (36), all residents of Lecturer colony, Jharsuguda.

As per sources, Kailash Meher had a verbal spat with his neighbor woman, who runs a cloth ironing shop over some issue. After this, the woman informed his son regarding the incident, where later the woman’s son Rajesh along with his associate Santosh Tandy had assaulted the victim Kailash Meher with sticks near his house at the lecturer’s colony. After this, the victim Kailash was shifted to Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Jharsuguda SDPO Nirmal Mohapatra said, “As per the complaint filed by the daughter of the deceased Yasoda Meher, a case has been registered at Jharsuguda Police Station. During the investigation, it was revealed that Kailash Meher had a verbal altercation with his neighbor Tanu Sethi (Woman), over some issue. After this, the woman’s son along with his associate attacked Kailash, who later died. We have arrested the three accused who were involved in this case. Subsequently, another case has also been filed by the woman against the deceased regarding assaulting her, where a case has been registered under 354 IPC, both cases are under investigation.”
