Alliance Air launches its services for Bhubaneswar and Raipur from VSS Airport, Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda : Alliance Air, (A wholly Subsidiary of Air India) on Wednesday, launched its flight services from Veer Surendra Sai (VSS) Airport, Jharsuguda.  The Flight  services of Alliance Air has connected two capitals, Bhubaneswar in Odisha and Raipur in Chattishgarh.

The Flight services was flagged off by Bargarh MP Suresh Pujari along with Health and Family Minister , Govt. of Odisha Naba Kishore Das, Brajrajnagar MLA Kishore Kumar Mohanty along with Joint Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation Usha Padhee and other  Officials of Airport Authority of India and Alliance Air.

As per the information, Alliance Air is operating ATR-72 type aircraft on  both Bhubaneswar and Raipur route with a seating capacity for 72 passengers. Earlier, Alliance Air had announced that the it will start its operation from 1st June but due to some reason, the date had been postponed to 5th June 2019.

On Wednesday, Alliance Air’s flight arrived VSS Airport, Jharsuguda at 10:45 a.m. from Bhubaneswar carrying 47 passengers onboard, while 53 passengers departed from Jharsuguda for Bhubaneswar.

Bargarh MP Suresh Pujari said, ” In coming days we will try to make Jharsuguda Airport one of the No.1 airport in the State, With the addition of two more cities , now Jharsuguda is connected to five cities and in coming days we will also request to connect Bangalore and Mumbai. I think within one and two years, VSS airport, Jharsuguda will became No.1 Airport in the country.”

“It is good that Alliance Air has started its operations for the two cities, I am coming from Bangalore via Bhubaneswar and now I can reach Rajgangpur much easily. I think there is a huge potential and demand for direct flight service for Bangalore and they should look into this. It will be a great relief for many air travellers.” said Chetali, air traveller from Bangalore to Jharsuguda

VSS Airport, Jharsuguda has been built at 10275.5 acres of land with an estimated cost of 210 Crores with a contribution of Rs. 75 Crores from the State Government.  with a handling capacity of 300 Passengers.

 The airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 22nd, 2018 and had flagged off flight operated by Air Odisha under UDAN 1.0. but the license of Air Odisha was cancelled in the month of November 2018, for failing to operate minimum scheduled flights.

Subsequently, the cancelled and additional routes where again inducted in the bidding process under UDAN 3.0 Scheme, where majorly four airlines companies Alliance Air, Spice jet, Turbo Aviation and Jet Airways had been awarded to operate from VSS Airport, Jharsuguda to six major cities including Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi.

On 31st March, Spicejet airlines had started its commercial operations from VSS Airport connecting Delhi, Hyderabad and Kolkata.

Spicejet was the only airline company, which had been operating at Veer Surendra Sai Airport. The Airline had been successfully running with its direct connectivity for Delhi, Hyderabad and Kolkata
