Jharsuguda Malayalees celebrates Onam gettogether

Jharsuguda: It was a merry time for people of Kerala in the industrial town as they celebrated Onam get-together in Jharsuguda on Sunday. On this occasion, the member of Malayalee Samajam all dressed in their traditional attire had organized Onam Celebration at St. Thomas English School at Jharsuguda in which more than 50 Malayalee families along with people from different communities were present.

The event started with the lighting of lamp and traditional Onam song known as Onappatukal sung by the Malayalees women. �We wanted peoples from all section of the community to be part of this celebration� said V.M. Mathews, member of the Jharsuguda Malayalee Samajam.

He added, �As the Onam celebration continues till ten days, we had chosen Sunday for the convenience for all of us to join, celebrate and have Onam Sadyaa or Onam Feast together.�

�Onam festival is the harvest festival of Kerala; this is being celebrated by all Malayalees of all religions. It is celebrate to mark the return of king Mahabali. For which Flower rangolis are put up in front of houses to welcome him, which is also called as (atthapookalam),” said S. Daniel, the organizing member of Jharsuguda Malayalee Samajam

One of the most important things in Onam is the Onam Sadyaa or Onam Feast, which is a fine blend of colours and flavours, which makes the festival most looked forward. �Entire preparation are made in rice, jaggery and coconut based. Along with the pyasam or kheer prepared which is prepared with coconut milk. As most of Malayalee is non-veg. but everybody eats veg. meal on Onam� Said V.M. Mathews

�I had never being a part of Onam Celebration, this was the first time for me to experience about the Onam�s �Celebration, especially the Onam Sadyaa.� said Sanjay Lodha, resident of Jharsuguda.

In this event , the Guest present were Bhavesh Nayak (Jharsuguda Tahsildhar), Sandeep Awasthy, (Public Prosecutor) , Miraj Bhai , Prof. (Mrs.) Ramalaxmi Vedula , Pratap Behera (Ex- Principal L.N. College) , Tahalu Sahu �( Ex- Principal Womens College) along with many others.
