Inter State Drugs and arms syndicate busted in Jharsuguda; three arrested with ganja, pistol and cash

Jharsuguda : In a major crackdown under ‘Operation Nashamukt Odisha Abhiyan’, the Jharsuguda district police dismantled an inter-state narcotics and arms syndicate, arresting three persons and seizing a large quantity of contraband ganja, a firearm, live ammunition and cash Rs. 4.87 suspected to be proceeded of illegal trade was seized.
Police identified the accused as Md. Kamal alias Kamaluddin (32) of Karpabahal, Banharpali, Suresh Singh (30) of Bandhabahal, and Narendra Prasad Bais (22), a supplier hailing from Singrauli district in Madhya Pradesh, Presently living Mahadevpada in Banharpali.
Acting on specific intelligence during a night patrolling operation, the Banharpali police intercepted the accused near Senhamal Chowk and apprehended them on the spot.
Police said the trio was part of a larger network involved in the secret transportation and distribution of ganja across industrial and residential pockets of Jharsuguda for financial gain. Further investigation is underway to trace other members of the syndicate.
Brajrajnagar SDPO Chintamani Pradhan Said, “During the operation, police seized over 21 kg of ganja (commercial quantity), a country-made 7.65 mm automatic pistol bearing a ‘golden star’ marking, and five rounds of live ammunition recovered from the possession of the prime accused, Md. Kamal. Additionally, cash amounting to Rs.4.87 lakh believed to be proceeded from illegal drug sales was recovered from the accused and a Hero Splendor Plus motorcycle used for transporting the contraband, along with three mobile phones, was also seized.”
Jharsuguda SP G.R. Raghavendra said, “Jharsuguda Police, under sustained night patrolling, has busted an inter-state narcotics and arms module at Banharpali. Three accused have been apprehended with commercial quantity ganja, illegal firearm, ammunition and cash proceeds. This reflects our zero-tolerance approach against drugs and organized crime. Further investigation is underway to trace the larger network and ensure strict legal action.”
