Five held with country-made pistols in Brajrajnagar

Jharsuguda: Brajrajnagar police on Tuesday busted an arms racket and arrested five persons, recovering five country-made pistols, four rounds of live ammunition and a motorcycle from their possession.

Police identified the accused as Santosh Biswal alias Jitu (30) of Rampur Colliery, Ganjamiapada; Sandip Das alias Chhotka (28) of Chunnabhata; Kanheiya Sahis alias Pakadi (33) of Rampur Colliery, Ward No. 6; Debendrapal Singh alias Babu (27) of Main Market; and Md Munna alias Karro (25) of Ganganagar, Muslim Basti — all residents of Brajrajnagar.

According to police, the accused were apprehended during a special drive conducted by Brajrajnagar police based on intelligence inputs regarding illegal possession of firearms in the area. During the operation, police seized five country-made pistols, four live cartridges and a motorcycle from their possession.

Preliminary investigation revealed that all the arrested persons are habitual offenders and have more than five criminal cases registered against them at Brajrajnagar police station.

Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Arms Act and further investigation is underway. The accused will be produced before the court, police said.
