Child Marriage attempt Bid Foiled

Jharsuguda: A bid to marry off a minor girl in Jharsuguda District was foiled after the intervention of Jharsuguda Childline officials and BTM Police Officials on Sunday. The officials later handed over the girl to the District Welfare Committee.

As per Childline Co-Ordinator Ashish Panda, �On Sunday we received information that a 16-year nine-month-old minor girl was getting engaged on Sunday under BTM Police Station Limits. BTM Police officials along with Childline officials had rescued the girl from the house, where her engagement was to take place. Subsequently, when Childline enquired and found that the girl age to 16 year and nine months.

After the rescue, she was produced before of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and as per the CWC order, the girls were handed over to the parents after a written declaration signed by them.�
