Jharsuguda’s Tapaswini wins Bronze medal for India in 18th World Pencak Silat Championship 2018

Jharsuguda : A resident of Jharsuguda Mrs Tapaswini Nayak won a Bronze medal at 18th World Pencak Silat Championship held at OCBC Arena Hall 1,  Sports Hub, Singapore from 13th to 17th December 2018.

In this event, more than 450 participants had participated from 49 countries. Mrs Tapaswini Nayak was selected to represent the National team. She participated in Tending (Fight) Female in Class E (65-70kg) category where she won  Bronze Medal.

India stood on Rank 10 in the World Ranking by winning 4 Bronze medals. Other participants who won Bronze Medal belonged from  Maharashtra, Manipur, Rajasthan.

“I feel very happy for achieving this medal, in my category, there were two, among which I beat two and reached Semifinal but in a semifinal, I was beaten by a Participants from Indonesia and managed to secure Bronze from my country. I had joined this martial art last four years back to learn Self Defence but slowly got into this after the guidance by my coach Prem Singh Thapa. I want to give credit to him. It is very difficult for a Married woman to come and take part in an International Event. I want to thank my husband who has always supported me and because of his support I could achieve this medal. ” said Tapaswini Nayak

She was accompanied by coach and International referee (Persilat) Prem Singh Thapa, General Secretary of Odisha Pencak Silat Association.

” Pencak Silat is an Indonesian MArtial Art and already 19 countries is being played. Before International Event, Junior  World Championship was completed in the month of April in Thailand. This was the senior World Championship which was hosted by Singapore. Tapaswini was selected at 4th Asian Pencak Silat Championship at Jammu and Kashmir and I am very proud that being from a small town Jharsuguda we could achieve this and made our country proud. ” said Prem Singh Thapa, coach and International referee (Persilat) Prem Singh Thapa, General Secretary of Odisha Pencak Silat Association.

“It’s an incredible achievement for a Housewife to come so far and achieve this medal at an International World Championships. It’s a proud moment. Jharsuguda has a many sports person who has potential to achieve but to support them there is hardly anyone, being secretary of the District Athletic Association, we will support all kinds of sports. I feel honoured that I got an opportunity to medal Tapaswini which was won by her at that Event. ” said Tapas Ray Choudhary, Secretary, District Athletic Association.

Tapaswini Nayak was given a grand welcome at Jharsuguda Railway Station when she arrived. by the Tapas ray Choudhary, Secretary, Jharsuguda District Athletic Association and Er. Arabinda Barik, President, Young star Charitable Trust.
