Jharsuguda: The two-day District-Level Fisheries and Animal Resources Fair–2026 was inaugurated by Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Kumar Pujari at the Manmohan School Ground in Jharsuguda on February 26, marking a major initiative aimed at strengthening farmers’ livelihoods and promoting modern practices in fisheries and animal husbandry.

The large-scale district-level fair was jointly organized by the District Administration and the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department, drawing participation from more than 500 successful farmers, livestock rearers, and fishers from five major blocks of the district—Laikera, Kirmira, Jharsuguda, Lakhanpur, and Kolabira. The event served as a platform to connect farmers directly with government schemes, financial assistance, and modern technologies designed to enhance productivity and ensure sustainable income.

Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Minister Suresh Kumar Pujari emphasized that the progress of farmers is the foundation of the state’s overall development. He stated that the government remains committed to working proactively for the welfare of farmers and ensuring that the benefits of government schemes reach even the last person in rural areas. He highlighted that fisheries and animal husbandry are not only traditional livelihoods but also vital pillars of Odisha’s economic growth, and empowering farmers would play a key role in building a self-reliant rural economy.

The fair featured more than 20 exhibition stalls set up by various departments, providing valuable information on government schemes, technical advancements, and modern farming methods. The Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department established four dedicated registration and advisory centers to address farmers’ concerns and provide guidance, while five live demonstration counters showcased modern techniques in livestock rearing and fish farming. A financial literacy camp was also organized by State Bank of India to educate farmers about financial inclusion, loan facilities, and government assistance schemes, including the Mukhyamantri Krushi Udyog Yojana. Experts and representatives from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Soil Conservation Department, Horticulture Department, and OMFED also participated, presenting innovative practices and support systems available to farmers. In addition, women entrepreneurs from Mission Shakti groups showcased successful models of self-employment and rural enterprise.

The event was conducted under the supervision of the district’s Chief Veterinary Officer and concluded with cultural performances and the felicitation of successful farmers for their achievements and contributions. The fair will continue until February 27, providing further opportunities for farmers to gain knowledge, access support, and explore new avenues for growth in fisheries and animal resource development.
