UDAN Scheme Drives Regional Aviation Growth: Jharsuguda Airport Achieves Remarkable Milestone in Passenger Traffic and Aircraft Movements.

Jharsuguda: Jharsuguda Airport, once an unserved aviation hub, has emerged as a success story under the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, a flagship initiative of the Government of India aimed at enhancing regional connectivity. Since becoming operational, the airport has recorded 18,000 aircraft movements and facilitated travel for 13.67 lakh passengers, marking a significant achievement in India’s regional aviation sector.

The UDAN scheme, launched to make air travel more accessible and affordable, has played a crucial role in strengthening air connectivity in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. Jharsuguda, along with Prayagraj—another underserved airport—has witnessed substantial growth, showcasing the scheme’s success in fostering economic development and improving regional air connectivity.

The continued expansion of the aviation sector in smaller cities highlights the government’s commitment to bridging the urban-rural divide, boosting trade, tourism, and investment opportunities, and ensuring that air travel is no longer a privilege but a convenience for the masses.
