Birth anniversary of renowned freedom fighter Shahid Ganesh Upadhyaya was observed
Jharsuguda:� 216th birth anniversary of renowned freedom fighter Martyr Ganesh Upadhyaya was solemnly observed at Hotel Mohini Royale on Sunday.
He was born Born on September 8, 1809, into the Gauntia family, Singhabaga village, near Jharsuguda. Ganesh Upadhyaya became an ardent supporter of Veer Surendra Sai, playing a pivotal role in the armed struggle against British colonial rule.
Upadhyaya’s legacy is marked by his ultimate sacrifice, sending his two sons to the battlefield and later being captured by the British. He was convicted of treason and hanged in Sambalpur jail in 1862, becoming a martyr for the nation.
To commemorate his contributions, the Young Star Charitable Trust and the Shahid Ganesh Upadhyaya Smriti Charan Samiti organized a series of events. The day began with a worship ceremony at the 200-year-old Samaleswari Temple in Singhabaga at 5:30 p.m., followed by a special seminar dedicated to his life and legacy. Patriotic songs paying tribute to his sacrifice were also performed, reminding attendees of his invaluable contribution to India’s independence.
The event was a heartfelt homage to a hero who remains an inspiration for�generations.
