12-Hour Bandh at Laikera in Demand of Sub-Divisional Status
Laikera: People in Laikera, Jharsuguda district, observed a 12-hour bandh on Tuesday demanding sub-divisional status for their area. This means shops and markets were closed for the day.
Residents say they have to travel long distances to access government services at the district headquarters, which is 26 km away. They believe having a sub-division in Laikera would make it easier for them to get the services they need.
Various groups, including villagers, retired employees, and youth organisations, participated in the bandh. They threatened to boycott the upcoming elections if their demand was not met.
Several NGOs also supported the bandh.
