Jharsuguda bids a tearful adieu to Kishore Mohanty

Jharsuguda : Ten thousand mourning supporters and distraught family members on Friday bid a tearful farewell to the former speaker and Brajrajnagar MLA Kishore Kumar Mohanty, who died of cardiac arrest yesterday evening.

Shops and markets remained closed in Jharsuguda and Brajrajnagar Town as a mark of respect as people mourned for their leader who was quite popular among the mass

A Sea of humanity converged at his home along with the presence of various Seniors political leaders who had come to pay their last tribute to Mohanty. Labour Minister Sushant Singh, Jajpur MLA Pranab Prakash Das, Attabira MLA Snehangini Chhuria, Bargarh MP Suresh Pujari, Member of Rajya Sabha Prasanna Acharya, Odisha Ex-Chief Minister Hemananda Biswal, Sundargarh (BJP) MLA Smt. Kusum Tete. Former MLA of Choudhawar Prabhat Biswal, BJD Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Singh, Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das and others were present.

His body was first taken to Brajrajnagar, where Brajrajnagar constituency people bid farewell to their leader, after which his body was brought to the Jharsuguda Indoor Stadium cum Auditorium at Mangal Bazaar for the local people to pay last respects to the towering leader of Jharsuguda District.  After which the funeral procession was taken out through the main road of Jharsuguda. Many local residents had paid their last tribute at various chowk of Jharsuguda. He was also given a Guard of honour at the Jhadeswar cremation Ground where his last rites were done. His son Purusottam Mohanty lit the funeral pyre amid roars of “Kishore Mohanty amar rahe”.

On Thursday evening Kishore Kumar Mohanty, 63, complained of Chest pain while he was attending a condolence meeting of his party worker at his BJD Office at Mangal Bazaar. He was rushed to a Pvt. Hospital at Mangal Bazaar, Where the Doctor said that he had a massive cardiac arrest and could not revive him despite best efforts.

Mohanty, started his political career in the year 1984 as a councillor and joined the Janata Dal party in the year 1977. He was thrice elected as MLA of Jharsuguda MLA in the year 1990, 2000, 2004, while in the 2019 Assembly election he was elected as Brajrajnagar MLA.

Mohanty was a speaker for one year from 2008-1009 and also the Govt. Chief whip from 2004 to 2008. He was also a Rajya Sabha Member from 2009-2012 and chairman of Western Odisha Developmental Council from 2014 to 2019.
