Deputy CM Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo Stresses Equal Importance of Sports and Academics at Purunabasti School Jubilee

Jharsuguda: Emphasising the need for holistic development of students, Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo said that along with academics, sports and physical activities are equally essential for students. He made these remarks while attending the Golden Jubilee Valedictory Ceremony of Purunabasti PM Shri High School as the Chief Guest.

The Deputy Chief Minister stated that sports play a crucial role in the mental and physical development of children, and education should not be limited to classroom learning alone. He expressed concern that although schools exist today, many lack adequate playground facilities, which affects students’ overall growth.

Highlighting the importance of modern education, he said that intellectual and value-based education is indispensable for students in the present time. He added that such provisions have also been incorporated under the New Education Policy (NEP).

On the occasion, Bargarh MP Pradeep Purohit assured that all necessary steps would be taken to fulfil the infrastructure and student welfare requirements of the school.
Jharsuguda MLA Tankadhar Tripathy, who attended as a distinguished guest, remarked that it was a historic moment for the district, as no other school had celebrated its Golden Jubilee for three consecutive days, with three ministers participating over the three days.

The programme featured Gouridas Pradhan, Headmaster of Khinda High School, as the keynote speaker. Other dignitaries present included Jharsuguda Collector Kunal Motiram Chauhan, PM Shri High School Headmistress Chinmayee Debashree Ping, and Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee President Ashok Mahapatra.

During the event, the guests honoured the families of the school’s founders and former MLAs late Birendra Pandey and Dr. Motilal Tripathy. Retired teachers who had served the institution were also felicitated for their contributions to education.

The programme concluded with a musical orchestra performance by Jhankar Melody, marking a vibrant end to the celebrations.
