Jharsuguda: Jharsuguda Railway Protection force has busted an Inter State gang involved in multiple cases of bag-lifting theft in railway stations and trains across Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, Chhattisgarh. The gang members who used to travel in trains and commit such thefts, have been arrested, and recovered melted gold worth Rs. 6 Lakhs from them, said the RPF Police.
Police identified the accused as Somu Mishra (37years), and Monu Mishra (33 years), both a resident of Patna and Pramod Paswan (29 years) & Shravan Paswan (32years) both a resident of Samastipur of Bihar, Gopabandhu Das (51 years), a resident of Jharsuguda, who use to provide local support in Jharsuguda.
Jharsuguda RPF Officer In-charge, Rakesh Mohan Said, “We have arrested five people who a part of an interstate gang who use to travel in various trains and routes and use to lift the bags of passengers. The Modus Operandi was that they used to travel as a normal passenger and they used to book their ticket 15 days in advance travel in trains and commit theft early morning when usually passengers are sleeping. The gang members used to target woman passengers traveling alone and people traveling with more luggage. After lifting they used to dispose of the trolley bag after taking the valuables like jewellery and dispose of them at Bara Bazar in Kolkata.
After a passenger, Komal Parikh, who was traveling from Jamshedpur to Rajkot on 8th December in Shalimar Okha Express, had registered a complaint at Govt. Railway Police station (GRP), at Raigarh regarding the theft of her trolley bags, the case was transferred to Jharsuguda GRP. A team of RPF was formed under the direction of Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, RPF, Chakradharpur, P Shankar Kutty, and after analyzing the CCTV footage, joint raids were conducted by GRP & RPF at Kolkata where the team successfully nabbed the culprits and recovered Rs. 6 Lakhs worth melted Gold from them. All have been forwarded to Court and the court has sent them to judicial custody.”
