Jharsuguda : BJD Candidate Alaka Mohanty registered a massive win in Brajrajnagar By-poll with a massive margin of 66,122 over her nearest Congress rival Kishore Chandra Patel, on Friday.
Alaka Mohanty secured 93,953 votes and registered a margin of 66,122 votes (including postal ballot votes) over her nearest rival congress Kishore Patel, who secured 27831 votes. Whereas BJP Candidate Radharani Panda managed to secure 22630 votes and slipped to the third position.
This is the first time since the 2019 Lok Sabha polls that the BJP was struggling at the third spot, with the Congress coming up in the second spot.
Since the beginning of vote counting, BJD Candidate Alaka Mohanty had maintained a lead over her rival Congress and BJP.
The by-election was necessitated as MLA Kishore Mohanty, the husband of the BJD candidate, died in December last year.
As the BJD took a massive lead, the Biju Janta Dal party workers dip into celebrations with crackers and beating drums.
On this victory, Alaka Mohanty said that “It is only possible because of the craze of our honourable Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and also for giving me a ticket for this election. Additionally, I want to thank our workers who have worked hard in this heatwave and also the each and every people of Brajrajnagar who has voted for me and choose me. My main aim is all-around development of Brajrajnagar.â€
Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das said, “Today, Biju Janta Dal has registered a massive win in Brajrajnagar Byelection. I had already told you, that the people of Jharsuguda district always like our CM Naveen Patnaik and because of him only we have won this election. This credit only goes to him. I had already told you that the lead will be more than 50,000. I want to thank all Ministers who had come here along with our BJD Organizational Secretary Pranab Prakash Das, BJD observer Subhash Singh, Biju Mahila Janta Dal Snehangini Chhuria and Pramilla Mallick.
