Urban Local Body Election concludes

Jharsuguda : The Urban Local Body election in three municipalities of Jharsuguda district ended in a peaceful manner barring a few incidents. The ULB Election was held for Brajrajnagar, Belpahar and Jharsuguda Municipalities.

The district administration had made elaborate arrangements for law-and-order situations in the districts.

In Jharsuguda Municipality, out of 75428 voters, 50427 voters cast their vote and recorded 66.83 percent, while in Brajrajnagar, out of 58237 Voters, 39,143 voters cast their votes with a recorded of 67.21 percentage and in Belpahar, out of 27087 Voters, 20347 voters cast their votes and recorded 75.12 Percentage.

In this election, many women, senior citizens and new voters had cast their votes in good numbers

“I was very excited to cast my vote for the first time while voting I had kept only one thing in my mind that the candidate who has promised for the overall development of my area and also sanitation and cleanliness which I see as a priority for my ward.” said by Garima Thirani

Counting of votes for these municipalities is scheduled to be held on 26th March. A total of 214 candidates are in the fray from all three municipalities including 76 in Brajrajnagar,79 in Jharsuguda and 59 in Belpahar.

The outcome of the Urban Local Bodies for Brajrajnagar and Belpahar election holds Significance for all political parties to show their strength ahead of by election which is expected to be announced soon after ULB election.

In the last ULB Election, in Belpahar Municipality, out of a total of 19 wards, BJD had won on 16 wards, While BJP managed to win 2 seat and congress in 1 seat, Similarly in Brajrajnagar Municipality out of 23 wards, the BJD party had secured 16 seats, Congress secured 5 seats and BJP secured only 2 seats, whereas in Jharsuguda Municipality, out of 24 wards, BJD had secured 14 seats while Congress party secured 10 seats and while BJP party could able to secure any seats.
