Jharsuguda Police Bust Brown Sugar Peddling Racket, Four Arrested under ‘Operation NETRA’

Jharsuguda: Jharsuguda Sadar Police on Thursday morning raided a suspected drug den near Hanuman Mandir Chowk in Kabaristhanpada and apprehended four individuals, including three women, for possessing brown sugar and other incriminating materials.
Police identified the accused as Kalyani Kalet @ Dugunu (21), Arati Suna (47), both residents of Kabaristhanpada, Halima Begum (45), a resident of Telibhatta and Sk. Altaf (22), both residents of Telibhatta under Jharsuguda Sadar Police Station.
Police officials said, acting on the direction of Jharsuguda SP Gundala Reddy Raghavendra, a special police team launched the operation at around 5:30 AM on October 30, 2025, and successfully arrested the accused from the locality. The raid led to the seizure of 9.60 grams of brown sugar, cash worth ₹7,470, two mobile phones, and packaging materials used for drug distribution.
During the raid, police also recovered 80 small plastic containers, 95 colored paper pieces meant for packing brown sugar, and two mobile phones.
SP Raghavendra said that under Operation NETRA, police have been maintaining strict surveillance over antisocial activities, including drug peddling, arms trafficking, and crimes against women. He added that such raids will continue in the district to dismantle the illegal drug trade network and ensure public safety.
