Childline officials foil child marriage in Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda: Timely intervention of Jharsuguda Childline officials foiled a Child marriage in Jharsuguda and rescued a 15-year-old girl on Monday

Childline Co-coordinator Ashish Panda, “A 15-year-old minor girl, of Brajrajnagar, was about to get married with a 26-year-old youth a resident of Lakhanpur on 11 am at their home at Brajrajnagar, on receiving this information, we, along with the help of Brajrajnagar Police and Child Development Project Officer Cum Child Marriage Prohibition Officer Punyamasi Sahoo along with Childline, officials had visited the venue and found that the marriage preparation was almost done and even the Barat procession of the groom just reached, however, we intervened into this and made them aware of the Child Marriage Law and its punishment to the family members and rescued the girl and produced before the Child Welfare Committee.� 

As per CWC order, the Minor Girl has been temporarily restored at Child Care institution.” He added.

The Minor Girl said, � The Barat Procession of the groom had reached around 10:30 am. I did not want to get married but I was forced to get married. It was good that the marriage has stopped as I did not want to get married but my father was doing it forcibly.
