Nia DaCosta will be directing the sequel of Captian Marvel, 1st black woman to direct a Marvel film


American director and screenwriter Nia DaCosta will be directing the sequel of 2019 superhero hit, Captian Marvel. With the sequel, DaCosta will be the fourth woman, and the first Black woman to direct a Marvel Studios film, following Boden, Cate Shortland (Black Widow), and Chloe Zhao (Eternals)

Costa replaces Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who directed the first film starring Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, the movie grossed $1.13 billion (about Rs. 8,240 crores) worldwide in 2019. Captain Marvel became the first and the only female-led superhero film to surpass the one billion dollar mark and the fifth-biggest movie of 2019.

Captain Marvel 2 is scheduled to release on July 8, 2022. It will be preceded by Black Widow in November, The Eternals in February 2021, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in May 2021, a Spider-Man: Far From Home sequel in December 2021, Thor: Love and Thunder in February 2022, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in March 2022, and Black Panther II in May 2022.

DaCosta’s upcoming next film is a supernatural slasher film, Candyman, co-written by Jordan Peele, that would have a release on June, but the pandemic has changed everything. Candyman is set to release in October.
