Jharsuguda Town Police gifts chocolates and batch to those wearing Helmets

JHARSUGUDA: The Jharsuguda Town Police have come up with a new initiative to promote the road safety in the industrial town, by gifting Chocolates and pinning them with a Thank you Batch among the motorists wearing the protective gear as a part of the 29th National Road Safety Week.

On Sunday evening, Policemen were seen Near Man Mohan M.E. School, who had been checking the helmetless motorist and distributing chocolates and a Thank You batch to the motorist who had worn helmet.

The program has received good response from commuters. The step taken by the police comes after when other means of enforcement were proved not effective.

“We have been booking cases for helmetless riding since a week and till now collected around Rs. 4.12 Lakhs as fine. But there is no change in the attitudes of the motorists. So, we thought of encouraging the helmet users by gifting chocolates and pinning them with a Thank you Batch, so that it will prompt others to use it.” said Sabitri Bal, officer-in-charge, Jharsuguda Town Police Station

Police said the drive launched in Jharsuguda Town will continue for one week and will be held across all areas. Also, Jharsuguda Town police took out a motorcycle rally on 28th April 2018, from Bus stand to Man Mohan M.E. School, advocating the importance of helmet for the two-wheeler drivers, to create awareness among the masses for use of helmets among motorists.

Apart from urging motorists to wear a helmet, police through the rally tried to dissuade people from drunk driving, using cellphones while driving and speeding.
