Air travellers irks over frequent flight cancellation at Veer Surendra Sai (VSS) Airport
Jharsuguda : For past few days, the frequent cancellation of flights for Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar and Raipur at Veer Surendra Sai (VSS) Airport Jharsuguda has became a major concern for the Air Travellers of Western Odisha, who want to reach their destination through this Airport.
As per report, All Flight operation of both airlines Alliance Air (a wholly subsidiary of Air India) and Spicejet got cancelled on 1st July, 4th July and 5th July due to the low visibility issue. Due to this, there has been a strong resentment among the Air Travellers who had chosen to reach their destination on time through this airport.
“I had come for a Case in High Court and I was suppose to return back to Delhi today. Even I was accompanied by my family but the flight got cancelled instantly and we received a message that our flights have been cancelled after reaching the airport. Why this Airport was opened in a hurry ? was it opened for the purpose of election? , they should have started the airport after completion and installation of all the required devices. Our demand is that please stop taking booking and stop harassing the Air Travellers until this airport gets all necessary equipment and facilities to run this airport in proper way.” said Rajendra Kumar Panigrahi, a Supreme Court lawyer
” We have come from Sambalpur to catch a flight for Hyderabad, as we had a connecting flight for Goa from Hyderabad. After reaching airport we got information that our flight got cancelled . Due to this now all our programme got cancelled and suffered monetary loss too. I have been hearing this since few days all passengers coming from Rourkela, Sambalpur, Raigarh (Chhattisgarh) are getting harassed. I demand that the authority should take some immediate steps to resolve these issue on priority basis.” said Simanta Kumar Hota, a resident of Sambalpur
“As I, have my monthly chamber in Kolkata. I use to take flights from VSS Airport regularly and it was very helpful for me but due to frequent cancellation of flights due to low visibility, Now I haved booked my tickets in Train. I request the Airport Authority of India, to install all necessary equipments and run this airport as it has now became a life line for entire Western Odisha people.” Said Dr. Deoshlok Sharma, Homeopathic Practitioner
Jharsuguda Airport Director, Sudesh Kumar Chauhan said, ” This airport has been developed under UDAN Scheme and it is developed under basic minimum infrastructure and after assessing the flow of passengers all needed improvement will be done. However, we have apprised this matter to our higher management of Airport Authority of India and remedial measures are under active consideration.”
