IMG_3355Jharsuguda: In a meeting held on DRDA Conference Hall chaired by Jharsuguda Collector Parameswaran B. and Jharsuguda MLA Naba Kishore Das with Farmers and Millers over the Paddy procurement issues had been solved and the next paddy procurement would start from 2nd January 2015.

As per the sources, for procurement of Paddy first Market yard was opened at Rengali under Lakhanpur Block and second Market Yard was opened on 24th December 2014. But due to the discolored paddy and red grains in rice under the fair average quality (FAQ) norms laid by the Government, Many farmers paddy where allegedly rejected by the Dist. Administration Food supply department. Due to which the farmers had brought this grievance in front of Dist. Administration on 27th December 2015. Failing to get any answer some of the farmers had dumped their paddy in the premises of Collectorate office and had protested against it.

However, in that context a meeting was called in by the Jharsuguda Dist. Administration to solve this issue on Tuesday chaired by Jharsuguda Collector Parameswaran B and Jharsuguda MLA Naba Kishore Das along with farmers and Jharsuguda millers association.

“There was some confusion among the farmers as well as among the Secretary Primary Agriculture PACS regarding the purchase of Paddy as per the FAQ norms. They were miss-led by some terms and so far they were not forthcoming with their paddy at our market yard as well as in the PACS. We have clarified all the issue. We have explained them how to clean the grain and how to bring their paddy to FAQ norms and also we have informed all the PACS secretaries and the co-operative department will also monitor it to ensure that grains which are coming of FAQ qualities will be purchased at all cost. From 2nd Jan on wards, the sale will start smoothly and will be getting the paddy.” Said Jharsuguda Collector Parameswaran B.

While Jharsuguda MLA NAba Kishore Das said that, “Due to Governments norms, till now the sale of paddy is not happened in Jharsuguda District, after the first meeting also the district administration has been failed in that line, in which I had asked a Food and Supply minister and had urged them to hold an meeting with the farmers today and how the paddy will be procured from the farmers that .

Last year, the paddy procurement was done smoothly but this year it was not doen properly. So in this meeting it was decided that from 2nd Jan onwards , the miller will purchase the paddy as per norms and  the payment will be given within 7 days and as in our district Millers are less so around 1 Lakh tonne will be sent to another District that  will be arranged.

Weigh Bridge is not present but in coming year it will be sorted out.”
