Laxminarayan College hosts ‘Shaktishree’ awareness workshop; girl students encouraged to embrace self-defence training

Jharsuguda: Under the Shaktishree Empowerment Cell of the Higher Education Department, an awareness workshop was organised at Laxminarayan College, Jharsuguda, to promote self-defence, self-confidence and women’s empowerment among girl students.
The programme, chaired by Principal Dr. Sumanta Kumar Patel, was inaugurated by Jharsuguda DSP Banita Majhi and Odisha Karate Association President Sushanta Kumar Gupta. Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries highlighted the importance of self-defence training in building confidence, courage and awareness among young women, stressing the need for such initiatives to help them lead safe, secure and self-reliant lives.
Dr. Swarnamayi Purohit, Coordinator of the Shaktishree Empowerment Cell, briefed the students on various women empowerment initiatives undertaken by the Higher Education Department. Faculty members Purnima Mayee Dash from the Department of English and Dr. Geetarani Dixit from the Department of Chemistry encouraged the students to actively participate in the upcoming week-long self-defence training programme.
The workshop was conducted by Shaktishree Saathi Sneha Barik, while the guests described the initiative as a significant step towards strengthening women’s safety and empowerment. Dr. Bishakha Singhania, Joint Coordinator of the Shaktishree Empowerment Cell, delivered the vote of thanks, and Pooja Sahu assisted in coordinating the programme.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from hundreds of girl students, members of the Shaktishree Empowerment Cell, and faculty members, making it a meaningful initiative to promote awareness, confidence and self-defence skills among young women.
