Jharsuguda: Banharpali police on Tuesday detected a burglary case within 10 hours of its registration and arrested a 20-year-old accused, recovering part of the stolen cash and other incriminating articles.
Police identified the accused as Suraj Singharia alias Hanu (20), a native of Lipaspali under Hemgir police station in Sundargarh district, who was presently residing at Karpabahal in Bandhabahal.
According to police, the case was registered on Monday after one Dhaninath Rout, a resident of Sarandamal, lodged a complaint alleging that unidentified miscreants had broken into his grocery shop at Swadhin Complex in Bandhabahal during the intervening night. The accused allegedly entered the shop by breaking the asbestos roof and decamped with cash and grocery items. Based on the complaint, Banharpali police registered a case under Sections 331(4) and 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Jharsuguda SP G R Raghavendra said, “The swift detection was made possible through scientific evidence collection, technical analysis, and coordinated field enquiries carried out by the investigating team. Police also recovered Rs. 1,750, suspected to be part of the stolen cash, from the accused’s possession. Investigators also seized an empty Monster Energy Drink can, three empty Amul Kool bottles, a broken HITTCO Zoom 200 lock, and three broken pieces of asbestos sheet believed to have been used during the house-breaking.”
