Jharsuguda Collector Pays Surprise Visit to Government School, Shares Mid-Day Meal with Students

Jharsuguda: In a bid to assess the ground-level functioning of government schools, Jharsuguda District Collector Kunal Motiram Chavan paid a surprise visit to the Government Upper Primary School in Lakhanpur on Thursday.
During the inspection, the Collector reviewed academic standards, classroom activities, and the overall administrative functioning of the institution. Accompanied by Lakhanpur Block Development Officer Shri Binay Patel, he interacted directly with students and teachers to understand the learning environment and assess the quality of education being imparted.
Highlighting the importance of maintaining a healthy and hygienic atmosphere in educational institutions, the Collector directed the Block Education Officer (BEO) and the school staff to ensure proper cleanliness, sanitation, and regular maintenance of the school campus.
To personally verify the implementation of the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) Scheme, Shri Chavan sat on the floor alongside the students and shared the meal being served. After tasting the food, he expressed dissatisfaction with certain aspects of its preparation and immediately pulled up the teachers responsible for the scheme, instructing them to improve the cooking process without delay.
The Collector issued a stern warning that there would be no compromise on the nutritional quality, hygiene, and safety of food served to schoolchildren. He also assigned the Block Education Officer the responsibility of closely monitoring the Mid-Day Meal programme to ensure strict compliance with prescribed standards and to prevent any lapses in the future.
The surprise inspection forms part of the district administration’s continued efforts to strengthen the quality of education, improve school infrastructure, and ensure that government welfare schemes are implemented effectively at the grassroots level.
