Jharsuguda: Jharsuguda Sadar Police on Sunday arrested a 28-year-old man for alleged murder of his wife after assaulting her during a domestic dispute, leading to her death, police said on Sunday.
The Deceased was identified as Soudamini Kisan (28) , a resident of Beheramal, Jharsuguda, While Police identified the accused as Rahul Bag (28) resident of Ghutkuripada under Sadar police station limits, was arrested after a complaint was lodged by the victim’s father, Ganeswar Kisan (52), a resident of Beheramal Kisanpada.
According to the complaint, Rahul had married Soudamini Kisan in 2021 through a love marriage, and the couple has a two-and-a-half-year-old son. Police said a family dispute allegedly broke out between the couple at around 11.30 pm on June 27. During the altercation, Rahul allegedly assaulted Soudamini, leaving her unconscious. Hearing her cries, local residents rushed to the house and alerted the police. Soudamini was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), Jharsuguda, where doctors declared her brought dead.
Based on the complaint, Jharsuguda Sadar police registered a case under Sections 85 and 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation and arrested the accused. Police also seized a wooden stick (lathi) suspected to have been used in the assault, blood-stained clothes allegedly worn by the accused, and other forensic evidence collected by the District Forensic Science Laboratory (DFSL) team from the scene.
Jharsuguda SP GR Raghavendra said , “Preliminary investigation revealed that a domestic quarrel took place between the husband and wife. During the altercation, the husband is suspected to have assaulted his wife with a wooden stick. She was shifted to DHH, where she was declared dead. The couple had a love marriage in 2021 and have a 2½-year-old son. The accused has been arrested, incriminating materials seized, and further investigation is underway.”
