Jharsuguda Cyber Police Arrest Sambalpur Youth for Fake Instagram Accounts and Obscene Posts

Jharsuguda: Jharsuguda Cyber Police arrested a 21-year-old youth from Sambalpur district for allegedly creating multiple fake Instagram accounts using edited photographs of a woman and posting obscene and threatening content online.
The accused was identified as Chitrasen Meher alias Chaitu (21), resident of Sasan area in Sambalpur district. He was apprehended near DPS School under Sasan police station limits in connection with a case registered at Cyber Crime & Economic Offences Police Station, Jharsuguda.
According to police, the case was registered on May 24 under Sections 78(1)(ii), 79, 319(2), and 351(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) read with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, based on a complaint lodged by a woman from Rengali area of Jharsuguda district.
The complainant alleged that on May 23 at around 10 am, she discovered that an unknown person had created five fake Instagram profiles impersonating her by using edited photographs. The fake accounts allegedly contained obscene language and threatening messages targeting the victim.
During investigation, Jharsuguda Cyber Police carried out technical analysis and digital tracking of the Instagram accounts. Based on electronic evidence and cyber forensic investigation, police traced the origin of the social media accounts and identified the accused.
Police said the accused was subsequently apprehended and arrested. He was produced before the court on Tuesday. Further investigation into the case is underway, officials added.
