OPGC Felicitated for Outstanding Contribution in Plantation and Afforestation Initiatives

Jharsuguda: The Forest, Environment & Climate Change Department, Government of Odisha, & Jharsuguda District Administration today felicitated Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC) recognizing its efforts in plantation activities and achieving afforestation targets.

At a special event held at the Jharsuguda Collectorate, Collector, Jharsuguda felicitated OPGC with a Certificate of Appreciation which was received by Sr.Manager(Environment) Parthasarathi Panda. The event was chaired by Aboli Sunil Naravane, IAS, Collector, Jharsuguda. Speaking at the event, Chief Guest Jharsuguda MLA Tankadhar Tripathy applauded the collective efforts of Jharsuguda Collector, Forest Department and industries like OPGC in fostering environmental conservation and emphasized the importance of industry-government partnerships in creating a sustainable ecological future.

OPGC at present has a total green belt of 34.86 percent of its total area. Green belt has been developed over a total area of 427.9 Acres out of total of 1227.39 Acres. Of the total area under green belt, almost half the area is preserved forest and the balance half is the planted area. For the year 2024, OPGC was given a target of 5000 saplings against which OPGC has planted 4700 numbers and having 100% survival. Of 4700 numbers, 2000 numbers have been planted outside the plant premises in Chadarama/ Saharipada village under participatory plantation. OPGC has also sponsored a mango orchard over an area of 2 acres in the district of Jharsuguda.

The event was attended by prominent officials, including Jharsuguda Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Mannu Ashok Bhatt, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Brajabandhu Bhoi, Tahasildar Sadakar Kumbhar, members of the District Environment Society, forest department officials, and representatives from various industries.
