Jharsuguda : In a major breakthrough, Jharsuguda Police on Thursday busted an Indian Premier League (IPL) betting racket having links with Dubai as well as major cities in the country and arrested two persons
Police identified as are Md. Akil Khan, a resident of Tatagali and Harish Sahu of Malipada under Jharsuguda municipality area. A whopping Rs. 6.80 Lakh’s cash with five mobile phones, passbooks, betting notebooks were seized from both of them.
As per the report, Jharsuguda police on 22nd September got information regarding an illegal online IPL betting racket. After which under the guidance of Jharsuguda SP, a police team caught an accuse Md. Akil Khan and Harish Sahu for operating betting in the basement of a building located at Near Rail crossing, Goushala Road. They had been playing IPL cricket betting online by collecting betting money from different callers by organizing illegal syndicates and betting on various websites. The accused have links with bookies of Kolkata, Mumbai and Dubai.
Jharsuguda SP Bikash Ch. Das said, “IPL cricket match has been started and IPL betting is going on, after getting information regarding a betting racket is operating in Odisha, Harish Sahu has been, having a link, Dubai, Stockiest is in Mumbai. We have arrested two people while four more people involved are still at large. They use to do this betting through online websites. There is the involvement of many people in this racket, who will be nabbed very soon.”
