International Women’s Day Celebrated; Fourth Installment of ‘Subhadra’ Scheme Distributed and Child Marriage-Free Campaign Successfully Concluded

Jharsuguda: International Women’s Day–2026 was celebrated with enthusiasm and excitement today at the premises of Jharsuguda Engineering School under the aegis of the District Social Welfare Department. On this occasion, the fourth installment of assistance under the ‘Subhadra’ scheme was also distributed.
During the event, the Hon’ble Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi virtually distributed financial assistance worth over ₹5,000 crore to more than 1 crore women beneficiaries across the state. In Jharsuguda district alone, 1,30,704 beneficiaries received financial support under the Subhadra scheme.
As a significant step toward women’s empowerment, the 100-day ‘Child Marriage-Free Campaign’ being conducted in the district was also successfully concluded today. Guests present at the event stated that the campaign has become a milestone in eliminating the social evil of child marriage and ensuring the safety and education of girl children.
On this occasion, Jharsuguda MLA Tankadhar Tripathy attended the programme as the Chief Guest and emphasized the importance of women’s economic independence and dignified living. The District Collector Kunal Motiram Chavan attended as the Guest of Honour. Representatives of the Hon’ble Revenue Minister and the Hon’ble MP, Naval Agrawal and Lalit Magar, were also present. Other dignitaries included Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Bishwaranjan Nayak, Additional District Magistrate Braja Bandhu Bhoi, and District Social Welfare Officer Jayanti Gartia. The programme was conducted by District Information and Public Relations Officer Krishnakshi Baliarsingh.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Anganwadi workers, local women, and school students who performed well in various sports and cultural competitions were felicitated and awarded by the guests. The programme concluded with attractive cultural performances presented by women, which captivated the audience.
District Social Welfare Officer Jayanti Gartia highlighted the objectives and achievements of the programme and expressed gratitude to all participants and contributors.
