Odisha Health Minister Inaugurates 6-Bedded ICU at District Headquarters Hospital

Jharsuguda : Odisha Health Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling on Saturday inaugurated a newly developed six-bedded Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), marking a significant step towards strengthening critical care services in the district.

The inaugural ceremony witnessed the presence of Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, Jharsuguda MLA Tankadhar Tripathy, District Collector Aboli Sunil Naravane, Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Dr. M.M. Panda, and several senior health officials.

Speaking to the media after the inauguration, Dr. Mahaling expressed his satisfaction over the development, stating, “It is one of the happiest moments for everyone that a six-bedded ICU has been inaugurated at Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital. This ICU facility was much needed, and today, we have fulfilled the vision of our Hon’ble Chief Minister to provide good and affordable healthcare services to all.”

Dr. Mahaling further informed that the old hospital building at Mangal Bazaar in Jharsuguda is set to be operational soon as a Satellite Hospital. “A policy decision has already been taken. This satellite hospital will function 24×7, equipped with ambulance services to ensure patients requiring advanced care can be immediately transferred to the District Headquarters Hospital after receiving preliminary treatment,” he added.

The initiative aligns with the state government’s broader commitment to enhance healthcare infrastructure, especially in regional and district hospitals, aiming to make quality healthcare accessible to every citizen.

District officials and public representatives welcomed the inauguration, stating that it would significantly boost the district’s capacity to handle critical cases locally without the immediate need to refer patients to tertiary hospitals in larger cities.
