Lakshmi Muni Sarkar who was missing from Assam since 14 Years, Reunited with Her Family with the help of Mission Ashra, Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda: A homecoming event was held today at Mission Ashra 2, located in Katapali village, managed by the District Administration, the District Mineral Foundation, and the People’s Forum.

Around two years ago, a mentally ill woman named Lakshmi Muni was rescued by a team with the help of residents of the Bundia area in Brajrajnagar and admitted to Mission Ashra 2 in Katapali. After receiving two years of care, counseling, regular medication, and support, Lakshmi Muni informed the staff about her home address in Kampur district, Assam.

The staff worked diligently to locate her home. On December 17, 2024, with the assistance of the Assam Police, the staff contacted her father and informed him about his daughter. Upon hearing the news, her father visited Mission Ashra 2 on December 17, overjoyed to meet his daughter after so many years.

Interestingly, on December 17, Lakshmi Muni’s father had traveled to Gaya for the ancestral rituals of his parents, accompanied by Lakshmi’s son. During the rituals, her father instructed the grandson to perform a ceremony for his mother (Lakshmi), but the grandson refused, claiming his mother was still alive. Later, the family received news from Mission Ashra and the Assam Police about Lakshmi Muni’s whereabouts, leading to the reunion.

This morning, January 18, Lakshmi Muni’s father returned to Mission Ashra 2 and took her home. The event was attended by District Social Security Officer Sunil Kumar Nayak, People’s Forum Western Region Head and Vice-Chairman Sanjay Jethi, Center Director Kiran Kumari Gupta, and other staff members.

During the program, an image of Lord Jagannath was presented by the District Social Security Officer, who also wished for Lakshmi Muni’s prosperous future.

Witnessing Lakshmi Muni’s return, other residents of the center became emotional and asked the staff when they too would return to their homes. Currently, 93 residents are under care and awaiting the opportunity to reunite with their families.
