65th Makar Yatra Festival in Khaliakani, Brajarajnagar

Jharsuguda: The grand 65th Makar Yatra Festival was celebrated with traditional fervor and devotion at Khaliakani, Brajarajnagar, under the auspices of the Radha Krishna Parishad Khaliakani. The festivities featured the divine procession of Lord Harihara as they mounted a beautifully adorned chariot and made their ceremonial arrival at the gathering ground amidst chants and cheers.

Before evening, a grand worship ceremony symbolizing the divine union of Lord Hari Hara took place, followed by the much-anticipated distribution of prasadam directly from the chariot to the devoted participants. The event witnessed a harmonious blend of spiritual rituals and cultural activities.

A significant highlight of the festival was a felicitation ceremony recognizing individuals for their remarkable contributions in various fields. Swargata Jharu Pradhan was posthumously honored for his contributions. Renowned journalist Ritesh Kumar Sharma, currently serving at the Times of India, received recognition for his outstanding work in the field of media. Deepti Nayak, a distinguished pediatric surgery super specialist from AIIMS Bhubaneswar and the first young woman doctor from Khaliakani to achieve such a milestone, was also felicitated for her accomplishments.

The event was chaired by Khirod Pradhan, President of the Radha Krishna Development Council. Former Brajarajnagar legislator Alaka Mohanty graced the occasion as the chief guest. The keynote address was delivered by Tapan Kumar Barik, a professor at Jharsuguda Laxminarayan College. Advocate Biswanath Nayak (Munna) attended as a special guest.

Key organizers, including Mahendra Nayak, educationist Prashanta Kumar Patjoshi, and poet Khirod Kumar, contributed significantly to the success of the event. The formal proceedings were seamlessly conducted by Parishad Secretary Lawrence Pradhan. Tapan Pradhan delivered the welcome address, and Pavitra Bisi extended the vote of thanks.

The cultural programs that followed showcased local talent and celebrated the region’s rich heritage. As the festival extended into its third day, a communication presentation program was scheduled, promising an engaging conclusion to this vibrant celebration.
