Lakhanpur Block Nagarik Parishad submits memorandum to President of India demanding Lakhanpur Block Division

Jharsuguda: On Thursday, hundreds of residents and villagers from Lakhanpur Block, united under the banner of Lakhanpur Block Nagarik Parishad, successfully concluded their “Adhikar Padhyatra,” initiated on March 2nd from Lakhanpur Block, at the Jharsuguda Collectorate.

The Adhikar Padyatra was orchestrated to voice the demand for the division of Lakhanpur Block into three divisions and the establishment of a sub-division for more effective governance. With 33 panchayats within a single block and the district headquarters situated approximately 50 to 60 kilometers away from these villages, Lakhanpur Block stands as the second-largest block in Odisha.

Members of Lakhanpur Block Nagarik Parishad submitted a memorandum to the President of India through Jharsuguda District Collector, seeking intervention in these legitimate demands.

As per the memorandum, Lakhanpur Block has almost 2 Lakhs population and is the second largest Block in Odisha. The residents face several challenges as the district headquarters is almost 60 KM far from this area and for the past 30 years, the people of Lakhanpur Block have been advocating the division of the block and establishment of Lakhanpur Tehsil Sub Division, but till now nothing has happened.

The division of Lakhanpur Block would not only alleviate the difficulties faced by its inhabitants but also contribute to improved governance and administration. This division would enhance accessibility to government offices, improve service delivery, and empower local communities.

Pitambar Mishra, President of Lakhanpur Nagarik Parishad, expressed frustration, stating, “It is a long-standing demand; people have been requesting the division of the block. However, the government has been unresponsive, and sleeping like a ‘Kumkaran.’ In the upcoming days, we intend to notify the state government that if our demands are not met, our fight will persist. We plan to intensify our protest, making it a focal point in the upcoming elections.”
