VSS Airport in Jharsuguda Set for Major Capacity Boost by March 2024

Jharsuguda :  In a significant development for air travel enthusiasts in the region, Veer Surendra Sai Airport in Jharsuguda is poised to undergo a substantial upgrade, aiming to double its passenger capacity to 540 by March 2024. This announcement was made by Airport Director Sandeep Tiwari during the first Airport Advisory Meeting of the year 2024, held on Tuesday at the Conference Hall of a Pvt. Hotel.

Chaired by Bargarh MP Suresh Pujari and attended by Jharsuguda District Collector Aboli Sunil Naravane, the meeting addressed various aspects of the airport’s development. Sandeep Tiwari revealed that the Ministry of Civil Aviation has identified Veer Surendra Sai Airport as one of 25 airports slated for upgradation.

Currently handling a footfall of 800-900 passengers daily, the VSS Airport is a crucial hub for the region. Sandeep Kumar Tiwari emphasized that the upgrade is a strategic move to facilitate increased flight accommodations and cater to growing passenger movements. The peak-hour capacity is set to increase from the existing 270 passengers to an impressive 540 after the completion of the scheduled upgrade. All necessary tenders for the enhancement project have been floated, with a targeted completion date of March 31, 2024. Optimism surrounds the completion timeline, paving the way for a more seamless and efficient travel experience for passengers.

Presently, SpiceJet operates flight for Delhi sector, while Indigo serves flights to Kolkata and Bangalore. Alliance Air operates flights for the Bhubaneswar sector.

The developments at Veer Surendra Sai Airport signify a significant step forward in the region’s air travel infrastructure, promising improved connectivity and enhanced travel options for the growing number of passengers.
