Five Held for Cheating a scrap dealer by posing as MCL Officer

Jharsuguda: Brajrajnagar Police on Saturday arrested five people for cheating a Scrap Dealer in Raipur, by posing as Mahanadi Coalfield Limited (MCL) Officers regarding the auction of scrap material from MCL.

Police identified the accused as Mina Behera alias�Munna Singh (48), Babula Behera (44), Babuli Sahu (49), Sumant Behera alias Tian (31), all residents of Kalinagar under Orient Police Station, Brajrajnagar and Sumant Dungdung (29) resident of Ranibagicha, near RTO office, Sundargarh.

As per police officials, On 16th�June 2023, a complaint was filed by one Firoz Alam, a scrap dealer of Raipur, he was contacted by two middlemen named Raj Kumar & Dilip Chaturbedi regarding the auction of Scrap Materials of MCL, for which Firoz had come to Brajrajnagar for physical verification. On 14th�June, the middle man introduced one Munna Singh who introduced themselves as field officer of MCL, and one Babalu Behera as PSO of Munna Singh, who also took Firoz to the stockpiles of scrap located various sites of MCL by means of Scorpio Vehicle (OR-23D-5822) being driven by Sumanta Behera. On 16th June, the complainant, Firoz had asked one of his friends to bring an advance of Rs. 3 Lakhs for the payment. After seeing the documents (later found to be forged) handed by the accused, the complainant Firoz had paid an advance payment to one Babula Sahu and Babuli Sahu (a security Guard ) posted at the GM office Samleswari Open Cast Project. Soon after receiving the cash of Rs. 3 Lakhs, all the accused fled away from the GM office and switched off their Cell phone. After realizing that the complainant has been cheated, he filed a report at Brajrajnagar Police Station.

A special team was formed to investigate the case, which apprehended the accused persons and recovered the cheated amount from them.� The tip-off raid was conducted at Brajrajnagar and Sundargarh area and apprehended the accused persons along with the seizure of a Scorpio Vehicle Motorcycle and Cheated Cash of Rs. 2,51,000 from them.

Brajrajnagar police have seized One Scorpio vehicle bearing Regd. No. OR-23D-5822, One TVS Radeon motorcycle bearing Regd. No. OD-23N-2355, (Both vehicles�were used by the criminals for committing the crime.), a�Cash of Rs.2,51,000/- of 500 rupee note denominations, Five numbers of mobile phones of the accused persons, and Forged documents in the name of MCL
